Money Matters
Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union (AACFCU) has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of the Wiregrass (BGCW) to sponsor “Money Matters,” a financial education program for the children at the BGCW. An AACFCU representative will teach weekly classes to help them become more familiar with money and the way it works. Various topics will be covered throughout the year-long program, such as understanding the value of money, saving and investing, credit and loans, paying for college and being your own boss. AACFCU will also host guest speakers for certain topics to better give the children an understanding of financial careers and issues. In addition to the Money Matters program, the on-site student credit union, Money Master Credit Union, opened on September 15, 2009. Children attending BGCW now can bring money to the Club to be deposited into their AACFCU savings account.

AACFCU has also teamed up with the Boys and Girls Club of the Emerald Coast (BGCEC) in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Discovery Kids Credit Union, a student credit union at the Club, was opened in September. Cheryl Walker (pictured left), Business Development Officer for Walton County, and Karen McCarthy (pictured right), Assistant Vice President of Operations in Walton County, helped the kids at the Club celebrate the opening of Discovery Kids Credit Union and presented the winner of the “Name your Credit Union” contest with a $50 savings bond from AACFCU. Cheryl has also taught money management and savings classes at BGCEC to encourage kids to begin saving money early in life.
